Copenhagen

The joy of living in Europe and being in a totally different country in minutes still startles me!

We jumped on board our budget airline and in 45 minutes landed in Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, where we had two days to see what this Scandinavian city had to offer. We each chose one thing to see and do. Mum as always – shopping! Than she added in a visit to see Princess Mary at her Royal Palace.

Kayla chose to visit the trendy area of Nørrebro in search of some vintage shops, while Naomi chose to see her friend Felicia, who we found out by the wonders of Facebook, happened to be in Copenhagen when we were. And finally I chose to go to Tivoli - a famous amusement park opened in 1843! Except on arrival to Tivoli we discovered the price for entry was over 50AUD! Not everyone’s cup of tea so I was saddened to not get my one and only wish!

We got some recommendations on the true local gems from a Danish friend I met in Berlin. The highlight was Dyrehaven: (Sønder Boulevard 72) A café/restaurant that's full of hipsters and nicely decorated. It serves traditional Danish food and it’s cheap a rarity in Scandinavia! We had such a good experience there, the waiter looked like he should be in Wayne’s World and suggested we share the world’s largest bowl of cauliflower and almond soup, washed down with a local bier. After stuffing ourselves we were just about to go when a savage rainstorm begun and we were seated back down and offered some free brownie!!

All in all our brief visit to Copenhagen was amazing and we can’t wait to go back in October to visit more of this intriguing cosmopolitan city.
